Logismoi (Greek: λογίσμοι lo-yeez-mee) is a term used to describe assaultive or tempting thoughts.
For perverse thoughts separate from God: and his power, when it is tried, reproveth the unwise: (Wis. 1:3)
Evagrius Ponticus (c.346-399) developed a comprehensive list in 375 CE of eight evil thoughts (λογισμοι), from which all sinful behavior springs.
The eight patterns of evil thought are:
- gluttony
- fornication
- avarice
- sorrow
- discouragement
- anger
- vainglory
- pride
